Hello Peeps,
Welcome to the last Day of the fur-bulous CAT LOVERS' BLOG HOP 2017, as hosted and arranged by the wonderful JANIS over at HER PEACEFUL GARDEN. I have had such a blast as usual on this great Hop and have enjoyed colouring up some of my own images for a change LoL :-D
This is the 3rd year that Janis has published this event and it seems that every year more of us cat lovers and taking part.
This is also my 3rd year of participation and this year's Prize from me is a brand new cat set that I drew especially for Janis.
Oxi Day (Greek: «'Οχι» Greek pronunciation: "'Ohi", meaning "No") is celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world on 28 October each year. It commemorates the rejection by Greek prime minister Ioannis Metaxas of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on 28 October 1940, the Hellenic counterattack against the invading Italian forces at the mountains of Pindus during the Greco-Italian War, and the Greek Resistance during the Axis occupation.
Janis has an amazing number of fantastic Sponsors this year and there are loads of Prizes, so why not pop over and join in the cat fest :-D You will find the start of the Hop here: MAIN HOP PAGE
**** As it is a special day today and also the last day of the Hop... my little Prize will be the full set of kitties for a randomly picked comment below. I will leave this opportunity open until 31st October 2017. ****
Each day of the Hop there will be one of these new kitties to win from this set in a special game Janis has devised. The Game for Day 6 is to share your favourite thing about this CAT LOVERs' HOP.
This card is to celebrate " OXI " Day here in Greece. It is a big celebration and there is a huge parade down in town later this morning. All the shops, banks etc are closed and everyone will be out to celebrate :-D
Here's the History........
This ultimatum, which was presented to Metaxas by the Italian ambassador to Greece, Emanuele Grazzi , shortly after 03:00 am on 28 October 1940, who had just come from a party in the Italian embassy in Athens, demanded Greece to allow Axis forces to enter Greek territory and occupy certain unspecified "strategic locations" or otherwise face war. It was allegedly answered with a single laconic word: όχι (No!). However, his actual reply was, “Alors, c’est la guerre!” (Then it is war!).
In response to Metaxas's refusal, Italian troops stationed in Albania, then an Italian protectorate, attacked the Greek border at 05:30 am—the beginning of Greece's participation in World War II (see Greco-Italian War and the Battle of Greece).
On the morning of 28 October, the Greek population took to the streets, irrespective of political affiliation, shouting 'oxi'. From 1942, it was celebrated as Oxi Day, first mostly among the members of the resistance and after the war by all the Greeks.
I have used the last image from the kitty set prize. This one is called 'Hello There'. He is put with one of the views from my 'GREEK VIEWS - World Tour Series' also from IKEsART.
I superimposed a Greek Flag and added the kitty at the front.
Janis has an amazing number of fantastic Sponsors this year and there are loads of Prizes, so why not pop over and join in the cat fest :-D You will find the start of the Hop here: MAIN HOP PAGE
This set will be available for purchase in my Shop IKEsART after the Hop has closed.
Enjoy the celebration today, Ike and thanks for the history lesson. My hubby adores history so I can't wait to see if he know these facts. I wonder if your handsome Greek kitty knows the word "No". Mine sure don't. LOVE him! xxD dlmundinger(at)yahoo(dot)com USA
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna . No none of them do..... I go round shouting Oxi at all of them at some time but they take no notice or just give me 'the look' hahahaha

Oh, Hi! (OXI)
ReplyDeleteInteresting bit of history. I love it when a language can translate "Then it is war!" to "NO!" lol! I LOVE languages and the fun that sometimes comes of translation!! This kitty is gorgeous!
Great and inspiring bit of history there, Ike! It's wonderful to have a national holiday commemorating this brave and honorable event. War is terrible, but avoiding war at any price can be even worse.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and lovely coloring on your kitty. Your Greek background and flag make a wonderful backdrop for him. I think cats know the word NO quite well...esp when you are trying to take care of their hygiene needs. No, they say, I am quite clean enough in my hinderparts!! And, afterwards, they say..."Then it is war!" (Alors, c'est la GRRRRR.) :)
