Hello and happy Thursday,
I have managed to squeeze in a bit of crafting time today before I get the sewing machine out tomorrow to make some cushion covers and stuff. !!
This week is just getting away from me and I am not sure where it's gone !
I decided to make a piece for the latest Challenge over at DeStempelwinkel and the theme this time is ' Shades of Brown '.
I have made a little book cover using some very thick cardboard and then I covered it with kitchen paper coated with gesso and squwidged it about a bit for some texture.
When it was dry, I painted it with Distress Inks to get some nice rich colour.
Then I printed some peacock feathers onto tissue and pasted them on top.
The main image is a stamp called "Buste Juno" by DeStempelwinkel. I wanted her a little larger so after stamping her with brown ink, I then scanned her back in to re-size. It made her a little blurry though but it kinda looks ok.
Then I cut her out and stuck her onto the cover.
** Juno's own warlike aspect among the Romans is apparent in her attire. She often appeared sitting pictured with a peacock armed and wearing a goatskin cloak. The traditional depiction of this warlike aspect was assimilated from the Greek goddess Hera, whose goatskin was called the 'aegis'.
The smaller picture I found on My God Pictures.com and depicts Juno with a Peacock. It says that the Peacock had a complaint....
"The Peacock considered it wrong that he had not the Nightingale's song, so to Juno he went. She replied "Be content with thy having, and hold thy fool's tongue ".
Underneath it says 'Do not quarrel with Nature'. How true !!! :-)
I also put the Symbol for Juno on there to bring through the peacock colour.
At some point I will get around to making some pages to go inside my book, but I'm not sure what will be on them yet :-D
Well - that's me for today I think. Thanks for popping in.
