COPY CATS

Hi- happy Monday Peeps and to those of you having a Bank Holiday.. I hope you have some good weather ?

I saw some beautiful cards today over on the Blog of KT FIT KITTY and I was busting to try her technique out... so off I went.
Well - it all went a bit 'snafu' on me but I carried on and made some cards with my results anyways :-(

Here's what I ended up with.

Now, I don't know whether my watercolour paper was too thick or I was using the wrong sort of inks, but it didn't do what I wanted. I know I had the paper wet enough cuz I had to hang it out on the line to dry off. The puss cats were stamped on but I had to go over this one with a marker as it didn't come out too well.
I used BoHo Chic papers from First Edition and flower buttons from my stash and copied Sketch #357 (inverted) from Sketch Saturday.

I tried this one using Stayzon but I think the watercolour paper is too bumpy for a good image.
Stripey paper is from my snippets box and the twine is part of a recent Prize and is from  STAMPIN' UP .. 'In Colour Accessory Pack'.
I followed Sketch #235 for this one.

This one totally didn't really work because I blobbed it with Tim Holtz alcohol dies - and of course, they don't go with water !!! :-(  I wuite like the effect, so I used it anyway.
The papers are bits from my snippets box and I don't know who they are by. The kitties on these cards are from De-Stempelwinkel - Cherry Pie range. This one uses Sketch #340 (rotated).

Since I semi-failed at this I decided to have a go with bleach on coloured card and I made these.....

The Puss cat is from TLC Creations and the other two are from The Graphics Fairy.
With these, I bleached the red card using a mister containing ordinary household bleach and a little water and then dried it with my heat gun.

I then printed the images onto it - having lined them up, added sentiments and then test printed them first.
I made two little cards and a kitty ATC with a tiny cat brad embellie :-D
I added my own sentiment to the Cow card and she is placed on a backing paper that says 'Hello' in lots of different languages :-)

So - I got lovely inky fingers and had a pretty good time today. :-D

It's no good.... I shall just have to fly over to see KT FIT KITTY for some lessons :-D hee hee

Thanks for dropping in. xxx

  1. Hmmm . . . I think it's just that some colours work better together than others. Some will produce that sort of muddy colour. I don't know which work with which though . . . so it's just trial and error! Your bleached ones look fab. Bumpy watercolour paper is never conducive to great stamping, especially with large area of solid rubber! If you have a black permanent marker, you might be able to colour over the rough areas.

I still like them all though - and they are each unique - which is half the fun of making your own cards isn't it?

  5. I think these look amazing, Ike! Your watercolour looks beautiful! Love the colours you chose - and I definitely love the subject matter! I really like the one with alcohol inks too! The bleached ones are awesome!

As for the faded-out images, that's due to the nature of the watercolour paper, especially stamping with a solid image. Sometimes there is a smooth side to the watercolour sheet, and the smooth side is better for stamping. When using the rough side, I end up stamping 2-3 times (you need a stamp-a-ma-jig or misti to get it dead on). I guess this is an instance where digis work better because they print vibrantly on the watercolour paper. Nevertheless, I love how yours turned out and I think they were a huge success! I like this technique a lot and plan to do some more, probably with digis again as I have a few images picked out that I think will work well. Thank you for the shout-out! I'm thrilled that you tried this and had fun with it!

  6. Oh yeah, and I should mention that I used lighter-weight watercolour paper - student grade 90 lb. It buckles more when wet but I had mine all taped down with painter's tape until it dried, and that helped with the warping. I did 4 watercolour backgrounds on the sheet and put painter's tape down and across the middle to keep each background separate since I had to put the full sheet into my printer.

  8. I love these! You sure had a good play, much braver than me - and what fun that you had to dry one or more on the washing line :)
